Yes,this is from LAST YEAR, but I really wanted to blog what we decided to use for our school year, mainly for me to look at later. This is important to me so I can see what we used and how we implemented it into our days so that I can refer back to it in the future.

Science Shepherd
We are very eclectic homeschoolers, so we actually use many different things throughout every school year. I am not afraid to ditch things if they don’t fit in for us. I also will not list things we just used for a few weeks unless that was the entire curriculum item. During the ’15-’16 year, we really did change gears several times mid-way through the year.
My grandmother had a stroke that autumn, so we went to be with her for a while and had a hard time getting back into the groove. Then the holidays snuck up on us. We got back into the swing of things by mid-January, and it got better after that. However, by June, we were only 1/2 – 2/3 done with a few items on this list. We homeschooled through the summer so we could complete things that needed to be finished, and then went on our late summer vacation as planned.
By the way, kids learn ALL the time. Just because we didn’t check off Lesson so and so or Unit whatever the number is, that doesn’t mean that we have had an unsuccessful year. In fact, I feel that my kids have earned arguably more than they would have if we’d just stayed at home and crossed off items from the to do list for each day. We’re learning through real life!
To progress through our assignments quicker, I did double up some language arts. I also decided to be more gentle with what I required. The goal was for my kids to satisfactorily master the information given to them. I still do this, depending on the day. For example, if they’re given 10 problems by the curriculum, but I know it’s review and can tell if they get it or not in just 4 problems, I may let the other 6 slide. 🙂 I want to fill in any holes in their education, but I don’t think they have to do work just for the sake of completing every single exercise.
