My kids love to do arts and crafts, so I was thrilled when we were chosen to review the Kwik Stix 12 pk from The Pencil Grip, Inc. What are they exactly? Well, they’re basically a vibrant, non-toxic solid tempera paint that dries in less than 90 seconds and are as easy to use as a glue stick!
The set came with 12 different colored Kwik Stix (affiliate link), and my kids were all able to use them with ease. This included my 4, 6, 9, and 10 year olds. Once they saw that it was as easy as taking off the cap and twisting the paint stick up a little before coloring with it, they were hooked. They begged me to let them paint multiple pictures each!
The set also came with a free sample of a Pencil Grip, which I’ve been using with my 4 year old to do his preschool workbook activities. It’s helping him to learn to hold his pencil properly for sure.

For our first project, I gave the kids a choice on what they wanted to paint. My daughter chose to draw Thomas Edison for an assignment she was working on. The boys got a little more creative and each drew something a little bit different.

What I loved is that my 4 year old was able to jump right in and get started with an art project. I let him use some manila paper to color on, which he would normally just use markers on. The Kwik Stix were simple to use and created a much more vibrant end result than any pens, markers, or colored pencils would. Plus, since they are paint, they are long-lasting and work on many surfaces. The big kids used some paper lined foam boards that I had stashed away for school projects, and it worked really well on there, too.

Since they are in stick form, I didn’t have to worry about keeping track of paintbrushes, cups of water, mixing plates, or anything like that. Also, they dry very quickly, so I didn’t have to worry so much about smocks or anything like that. When they got some on themselves, it washed off easily.
When my 18 month old got into them and decided to bite one, I didn’t have to worry. I simply washed it out and off of his mouth and we moved on with our art projects! No problem at all.

We will definitely be using these Kwik Stix again. We got the regular set, but they also sell metallic and neon sets, which we plan on purchasing when we reorder the set we got as well. I’m not sure when we will have to reorder. So far, we’ve painted three different times with all 4 of the big kids and we still have plenty to keep making more art projects! To me, that makes these a great value and definitely a true convenience for the whole family to be able to create masterpieces together.
If your kids are into arts and crafts, I highly recommend picking up a package of Kwik Stix. They’re very high quality and will not disappoint. If you’re like me and hesitate to let your kids paint, take notice. They take the painful preparation and cleaning up steps of crafting totally out of the equation and have made my life easier – and theirs a whole lot more fun!

Love your GIANT paper! What a great crafting surface for a less precise medium like Kwik Stix. 🙂
