You have probably seen the Youtube video of “The Story of Stuff” that Annie Leonard did a while back. It swept through my social circle like a whirlwind, exposing …well… the story… of STUFF. 🙂
Here it is in case you missed it the first time:

Now there is a revolutionary new book by Annie Leonard named (most appropriately) “The Story of Stuff: The Impact of Overconsumption on the Planet, Our Communities, and Our Health – and How We Can Make It Better” and it was a huge eye opener for me! Basically, she expanded upon what you saw in that clip and really gave a really raw view of STUFF.
It goes through the extraction of the things necessary to MAKE stuff, the actual production of stuff, the distribution of the stuff, the consumption of stuff, and then the disposal of stuff. She went around the world with her research and I was shocked and amazed at the stories and the information that she had to tell in this book. I knew that we (and by we, I mean all of us globally) had a problem, but this really puts it into perspective and sheds a new light.
She also writes an epilogue to the book about how people are trying to change things and how we can personally change it as well.
I really personally enjoyed this book because it made me take a hard look at myself and the role that I play in this age of consumerism. I am so guilty of doing things that have dire consequences. It’s so easy to push these aside and pretend they don’t exist, so this was a great wake up call for me. I hope to make several changes around my own home and in my own life and maybe even get involved with movements that will benefit us all.
This book is now available TODAY. It is printed on recycled paper and is also available on audio book and ebook.
