If you know me, you know that I have looked all over the place to decide where to move my family. After looking to see if the places had jobs, we searched online looking at places to live to get a feel for the cost of living. After looking at Hawaii (really anywhere!), Anchorage, and various places in Texas, we decided that we actually wanted to stay in Texas. More specifically, about 2 1/2 years ago, we decided we wanted to move to Dallas or Fort Worth.
We moved out here with a dream and a prayer. Our house sold (FINALLY!), and there were no local rentals, so we took the profit on the house, the money from hubby’s unused vacation time that he got to cash out, and we moved out to DFW. We immediately found a rental once he got a job, but knew we’d want to end up in a house of our own eventually.
Several months ago, we started looking at the real estate market out here in Dallas and Fort Worth. The decision was made that my husband and I wanted our next home to be brand new, so the search was on for affordable housing in the area. Through looking all over the web, especially real estate sites, we got a feel for the different builders in the area, their pricing, and the communities they serviced. We made appointments, looked at different communities, crunched numbers, got pre-qualified for a home loan, discussed options, and really mulled it over.
What finally sold us on the area that we are now living in over in Fort Worth is the cost! The homes here, brand new, cost $100,000+ less than comparable homes in our past city (Carrollton) or in communities that are even just 3 miles east of where we are living now! Isn’t that nuts?! We had 2 main places to consider moving to based on the cost, size, builders, etc. We chose this place over the other one because most of hubby’s friends from high school live in this area as it is mere miles from where he went to school as a teen. The commute is more than at our last place, but the people he will be near works out better. Not only that, but the in-laws are a little closer now, too. That drive time has been cut into half and is much easier than it was!
We are really excited to finally be settling into the new home. We’ve finally officially moved in. ALL of our belongings are out of our rental, so all of our things are crammed into the house right now. The whole family is as happy as can be about the new home and love it a lot!
This probably won’t be my last post about the new house… but can you blame me?! This has been our most expensive purchase EVER, and it is so exciting! It’s such a huge change for our family, but we’re all enjoying the new challenge. 🙂

We tried hard to move to Ft. Worth two years ago but it just didn’t work out. Now I look back two years later at the things that I’m getting to help put together here in Houston and I really understand why it didn’t happen. You have a beautiful house!
