If you and your crew are the biggest Minions fans out there, why not go all out? Check out these adorable Minions inspired painted tennis shoes! When a friend of mine shared with me that she was going to be making them, I knew I had to share a tutorial for it on the blog.
The Minions Movie is a huge hit in the box office right now, but these yellow fellows have always been winners around here since we first met them in Despicable Me. They’re just TOO cute.
DIY Painted Minions Shoes
Supplies Needed:
*1 pair white tennis shoes
*duct tape or painters tape
*old newspaper or something similar to stuff the shoes with
*a sharpened pencil
*acrylic paint or fabric paint (colors used for the ones in this tutorial were chambray blue, yellow, dark grey, black, brown, red, pink and white)
*small paint brushes
To Make:
1. Remove the laces from both shoes.
2. Use your tape to tape around the sole of each shoe. This will protect it from the paint you’re about to use.
3. Stuff each shoe with old newspaper.
4. Using your pencil, hand draw or copy the Minion (in this tutorial, the full minion wenton the right shoe and the half Minion on the left shoe). Be sure to include its facial features and clothing.
5. Once it looks like you like it, outline the Minion in black paint using a small paint brush. Fill in the body with yellow except for his overalls, which you will paint dark gray. Add details for the overalls in black.
6. On both shoes, outline and color in the gloves, hair and glass frame.
7. Outline the mouth in black. Make two grey lines on the top and bottom on the mouth, adding small white squares for the teeth. Outline and color in the grey frames for the glasses and make a button on the pocket in the center of the overalls.
8. Using white paint, fill in the white in the eyes. Use brown for the center of the eyes with a small white streak close to the black dot in the eye.
9. In the mouth, add a small, short line of pink and add a small red dot in the center for the tongue.
10. If you want, spell out MINIONS in yellow to fill in some space on your shoe. Fill in the rest of the blank space on your shoe with the colors of your choice. In this tutorial, yellow and chambray blue were used.
11. Allow your shoes to dry overnight or until no paint comes off on your fingers when you touch the shoes.
You may want to spray a protective coating on them prior to wearing. Be sure it is completely dry and replace the shoelaces. Enjoy walking around with a unique pair of MINIONS shoes that everyone will be asking about!
