Okay, I talked about retirement homes in a post not too long ago and now I’ve been thinking about some other stuff….
Don’t think I’m incredibly morbid, but I do think about end of life kind of things, especially since I have 3 kiddos to think about here!!
What do you guys have planned for when you’re older and need help with all of the rising medical bills and other expenses once your actual income decreases? I know that we have decent insurance now, but I’ve heard my grandma talk about Medicare supplements before because everything is still SO expensive, even with decent coverage. I’ve also had friends that have dual coverage with insurance (both adults get insurance from their places of employment so their out of pocket is basically nothing), but insurance premiums are so costly and we rarely get sick or hurt so it doesn’t make sense at this time… but what about when we’re older? EEK! It’s hard thinking about that kind of stuff!!
One thing that will help my dad and that I plan on showing him is a site I found called HelpForVeterans.com which is a discount card program for Veterans. He’s always into the senior citizen discount, so this will be right up his alley and would be another way for him to save money now that he is older.
Also, what about when it’s time for the funeral when you do pass away (or your spouse does)…. How have you planned paying this out? I was looking at Burial Insurance quotes and then was thinking about my own parents. I wonder if they have done anything to ensure that the cost of their burial is covered. It kind of freaks me out thinking that I may have to come out of pocket when the time comes to bury them. YUCK I hate thinking about it because I will be so sad, even though I know they’ll be with Jesus and everything. It still will break my heart and my kids’ hearts, too.
I hope that when the time comes, we have everything in place so that we don’t have to worry so much about money. Life is stressful enough and I want to spend my golden years celebrating the wonderful family that I’ve been blessed to be a part of and to help create. 🙂
