It is almost 2 weeks into 2014, and I think it’s time I blog about my Goals for 2014. You’ve likely already read my cleaning resolutions for 2014, but I have been thinking a lot about my actual goals for the year. I will split my goals up into family goals, personal goals, professional goals, and a short 2014 bucket list.
Family Goals for 2014
1. Spend more time with my husband.
He works a lot and has a commute, so it’s tricky to plan in family time. It’s even harder to fit in date nights (as you can see from the fact that we just hired our first babysitter recently!). I’m making a conscious effort this year to spend more time with him. For him, this means I actually have to have a plan and not wing it. Quite the challenge, but I think it’ll be worth it.
2. Spend more time with my kids.
This sounds a bit dumb, but with today’s digital age, it’s hard to be sure that every single screen is turned off most of the time. This is especially true since we do the majority of our homeschool work online. I want to be more present with them and do more fun activities like board games, reading together, and going places.
Personal Goals for 2014
1. Cook at home more.
It is no secret that I love to go out to eat. When we’re home, I’m usually pulling together something quick and easy (like my paleo cereal). This year, I will make a deliberate choice to cook meals more often and to quit being so darn lazy in the kitchen!
2. Figure out a good diet and fitness routine that will keep me energized and healthy.
I’m already enjoying going back to the gym to exercise and have been watching what I eat and tracking it on MyFitnessPal. I want to keep my energy levels up and get strong through diet and exercise. No excuses!
Professional Goals for 2014
1. I only want to DO it if it’s WORTH it.
I won’t lie, I’ve often done work that just ended up disappointing me. Whether it wasn’t worth the time or the money or the worry, there have been many things I’ve put on my “plate” that shouldn’t have been there in the first place. I’m prioritizing my family and myself instead of prioritizing a professional pathway. This is where I am in my life right now, and I will not let myself feel like I’m missing out now only to KNOW that I missed out on what was REALLY important in hindsight years down the road.
If it won’t be important to me in 12 months, is it important to me now?
2014 Bucket List
- Go one one family vacation over the summer and another one other time during the year.
- Try at least 30 new-to-us local places this year. (Restaurants, stores, beauty places, parks, etc)
- Finish reading chronologically through the Bible. (I started this January 1st)
- Teach my husband how to make 4 different meals. (He doesn’t know how to cook!)
- Try 4 kid crafts from Pinterest that will work as grandparent’s gifts/family keepsakes. (My mom has been begging, and I think it might be fun!)
- Unpack the house already! (We moved in March ’13. lol)
- Turn my bedroom (master bedroom) and bathroom (master bathroom) into a relaxing, decorated space.
- Teach my kids how to make 4 different dishes.
