The kids are out of school for winter break, and there are so many wonderful activities for families in the DFW Metroplex. Make sure that a stop at ICE! at Gaylord Texan in Grapevine, Texas is on your list.
Each year, over 300,000 people come to the Gaylord Texan to experience ICE! and even more come to the resort to experience the lights, creative and unique decor, the train sets, the gingerbread house building, delicious restaurants, and more. It’s the perfect place to bring the whole family to experience a holiday like no other.
Thank you to the Gaylord Texan for allowing my family to come and experience this awesome holiday event. We enjoyed the gorgeous ice sculptures and were in awe of them. We were in disbelief that the artisans were able to stand being in that frigid cold for so long to create such beautiful and intricate designs!
ICE! featuring “Christmas Around the World”
Starting all the way back in mid-October, 40 talented master ice artisans from Harbin, China, traveled halfway around the world to Grapevine, Texas in order to carve 2 MILLION POUNDS of ice into magical holiday scenes, brilliant characters, an “On the Blocks” ice bar (21 & up), and five ice slides. These all take visitors on a breathtaking journey through “Christmas Around the World.”
You will feel as though you have been transported up to the North Pole as you begin to walk through the 14,000-square-foot attraction, which is kept at a wintry 9 degrees. To stay warm, the resort provides complimentary parkas for both adults and kids to wear while in the winter wonderland.
This year at ICE!, you get to experience the magic of “Christmas Around the World” as you view over 100 ice sculptures. It features holiday scenes from around the world, such as Mexico, Germany, Sweden, and more. There is also a sweet collection of ice sculptures depicting children from around the world.
There are two-story-tall ice slices, which adults and children can go down. My kids had a blast doing this, and were laughing at the many adults that went down alongside them. This was their favorite part!
You can take a photo in Santa’s sleigh, try your hand at being one of Santa’s elves, and even watch as a Chinese artisan carves an ice sculpture right before your eyes.
To end this cold, but magical, journey, you walk through and view a stunning, crystal clear Nativity. This was my favorite part of the exhibit.
Once you’ve left the chilly part of ICE!, there is a gift shop, snacks and warm beverages available for purchase, and many more fun family activities. Try your hand at extras like snowball throwing or snow tubing at Santa’s Wild Workshop.
Gaylord Texan even offers several packages. Gaylord Texan Makes the Holidays Magical
I believe our family has started a new tradition of visiting the Gaylord Texan to celebrate the holidays. Between their 54-foot tall Christmas tree, 2 million glowing and twinkling lights, snow ball throwing, gingerbread house making, 15,000 ornaments, 2,300 decorated wreaths, the 2 million pounds of ice, and the 2 million pounds of real Texas snow, it is enough to put the grumpiest of folks into the holiday spirit!
