A local zoo had a homeschool day this week and we had a fun time! The kids and I were there for over 5 hours. It was exhausting, they threw fits, and we lost a snow cone due to a huge bee swarm that took it over… but all in all, a great day.

Michael asked what would happen if this lion were to jump down toward us…. I told him he’d get quite injured since that has a steep drop in order to prevent such an attack….

The giraffes were so neat!

This picture is way better than the pictures of their butts that I got earlier in the day.
The tortoises were mating during our visit… which was quite interesting (and hilarious to the adults). The kids kept yelling out, “Why is the big one squishing the baby!? Why is he saying UUUUH so much!?” Lovely. Thank you, nature.
The bees were horrible! They were following us everywhere, all over our bag, the stroller, our food and drinks, and generally freaking out the kiddos and myself the whole time. EEEEK! I don’t DO bees!
Next time they offer an event, I think I’ll be able to better prepare them for it. This time was a bit hectic because we spent the whole first 2 hours running from un-marked “speaker” event to another and missing them because there were literally no signs indicating where we were supposed to go and none of the employees seemed to know. We had the most fun in the afternoon at an animal ‘show’ and then just wandering around on our own.
It’s so great living here and being close to this type of event!!! In our old city, the nearest zoo was over 2 hours away and the drive was grueling. This was about 45 minutes away and the drive was interesting enough I didn’t feel like napping. 😉
What is your favorite part of the zoo??
