Hey Jenn what is the proper thing to do when you get graduation announcements in the mail? Do you get everyone gifts?
Great question, Steph!!! Okay, I have looked it up on several websites and the consensus is clear. Receiving an invitation or an announcement does not necessitate a gift.
If you actually GO to the graduation, I’d certainly say you should get a gift. Otherwise, I’d probably opt to send a congratulations CARD or note to the proud grad unless they were really close friends or family.
What’s a proper gift? I honestly would say cash and gift cards! I hate when everyone seems to “know” what a grad needs…but the fact is they need cash or cards to either celebrate or get them on their feet for their next venture in life (and if you don’t like giving them the responsibility of deciding how to spend it, then maybe you should re-evaluate whether or not they need a gift from you. lol). It’s also super easy to mail a check or a card or even send it online to them.
If $20 or more is not in your budget, get creative and give from the heart (or gift closet!). Don’t overthink it. Really, a card with a really sincere letter to the grad can be better than any material objects…
Have fun celebrating all the graduations!!!
