Our family has used Teaching Textbooks for years. We began with their CD-ROM programs and textbooks and are LOVING their current online format. It has been a great fit for us and we have chosen to use it repeatedly. It’s the only math program my four sons have used from 2nd grade up until this year. My younger boys continue to use it to this day.
My oldest son used Teaching Textbooks in 2nd grade (he tested into the Level 3 program) and finished with Pre-Calculus last year (as a Junior in high school). My other teen son started in 2nd grade, in Level 3, and completed Algebra 1 last year. They are both doing dual enrollment college credit for their remaining math credits for high school, which is something new for us!
When I had 4 or 5 kids using Teaching Textbooks, the thing I loved about it was the inexpensive cost for what you get. For 4-8 children in the same household, their online program has a capped cost of under $220 TOTAL. That’s pretty awesome! This year, we only have 2 kids using it, so we bought the courses on their own and our total was less than $120.
So why is Teaching Textbooks so great that I’m loyal to this program?
You can read my review from when Teaching Textbooks went online here. Most of my reasons for loving the program and the perks are the same, but I’ll tell you what really has me stuck on using them.
- Everything can be done online. They do have optional workbooks that you can print or purchase. I like to get these for my kids so they can have something to work in that already has the problems written down for them, but a scratch sheet of paper is also sufficient for working out the problems.
- You have an entire year to use the program, and you can pause your account during breaks or vacations. When you purchase the subscription to the program, you’re able to work at your own pace to get it done within one calendar year.
- It does all of the grading for me, automatically! I love this part! How convenient, right?
- It has a grade book that can be viewed at any time. From here, you can also delete attempts and mark them to be redone if you would like.
- Many features can be adjusted for your student’s needs. For example, you can turn “second chances” and hints on or off for your students.
- You get an email each day reporting your student’s progress. I love this for the accountability. I know immediately if my kiddo is struggling or “forgot” to do math.
- My kids LOVE using this program. Since we’ve been using it for so long, they’re extremely comfortable with the format. I have never had a hard time getting my kids to do this math!
- If your child is having problems, Teaching Textbooks offers complimentary tutoring by phone. You don’t know to know how to do High School Geometry – yay! Your student can call in and get support as needed.
- My kids say that math is their favorite subject. Yeah, I think I am sold on any program that gives my kids that kind of confidence!
- There is a placement test. If you’re new to the program, you don’t have to guess which level to start your child at. Have them take the placement test so you can get them going at the level that’s right for them. TT levels do not necessarily correspond to grade levels.
- It is colorful and fun to use. We have a lot of the fine extra features enabled on my kids’ accounts, such as the stickers and the wallpapers.
- They offer step-by-step solutions to every single problem. Your child can follow along to understand how to solve each math problem.
- There is built-in review AND testing throughout the program. My kids are constantly practicing what they are learning and completing quizzes to show that they are truly learning the concepts.
- It is a no-brainer time saver for ME! I love that I can send my kids off to do their math. It saves a little time for me to work on other subjects with my kids. With lots of children that I’m homeschooling, every little bit of time that I can have free to teach other things is treasured and appreciated!
We love Teaching Textbooks and will continue to use it.
Many people who used their original CD-ROM option became frustrated when Teaching Textbooks transitioned to an online-only program, but I have been really impressed with the ease of use and the reliability of the program. I’m thankful that this option exists, and will continue to use it for years to come!
