Well it seems that the one “cold” day of the year decided to show up today for the Cottonwood Art Festival. 😉 I am sort of joking, sort of not. Out here in Texas, it doesn’t get cold until pretty late into autumn, so the cold front that showed up this morning seemed funny since this was the only outdoor activity I’d planned in a while! Regardless, we braved the blustering cold (50s. haha) and the whole family went to see what art was on display and ready to be made out in Richardson, Texas.
There is still plenty of time for you to head out there, too! They are open today until 8PM and tomorrow from 10AM-6PM as well. There is a lot of live entertainment scheduled as well.
We were so impressed with the HUGE assortment of art available for browsing and purchasing. Sculptures, paintings, paper art, rugs, music, clothing, jewelry, pocket knives, pottery, blown glass, and SO much more. It was really exciting to watch my kids as they explored everything. Even in the cold, they could appreciate the vast array of things out there and it really opened their eyes to new possibilities.
The kid’s area (Art Stop) was just beyond a bridge from the live entertainment area and information booth. You purchase tickets to participate in several different art experiences for kids, from painting, to pottery, to creating origami! Tickets were $1 each and the booths were charging between 1-4 tickets each.
There are also several food vendors throughout. You can try deep fried jambalaya, extra long corn dogs, Texas Twist pretzels, BBQ sandwiches, spiced nuts, and more. There were also lots of delicious beverages available, including a nice assortment of adult beverages.
A note on parking. Parking and admission is free. There is a school and athletic stadium across the street. Many were parked there or along the streets near the festival. We parked in a parking lot in front of a Halloween store right at Coit and Beltline instead. It was less than a block away and easy to get into the festival from that location without having to cross a lot of dangerous street traffic!
I am glad to know about this event and will certainly plan on checking it out next time as well! Since it is twice a year, it won’t be long until we get to go back!
