Tea lovers, rejoice! If you love chai, I have a delicious recipe to share with you for my favorite drink ever, a homemade chai frappuccino. It is super easy and takes no time at all. Instead of paying $5 for a sweet, spicy, frozen treat, DIY for pennies!
It’s paleo friendly, clean eating compliant, and easy to play around with to get that perfect drink, just for you.

DIY Chai Frappuccino
To start, you will need 2 tea bags. I used Stash Vanilla Chai Decaf Tea. You’ll also need a cup of the milk of your choice. I used unsweetened almond milk, but you could use cow’s milk, rice milk, half & half, soy milk, coconut milk, or whatever else you like. You’ll also need honey or another sweetener and 1-2 cups of ice.
Ingredients:
- 2 chai tea bags
- 1 cup milk of choice
- 1-3 TBSP honey or other sweetener, to taste
- 1-2 cups of ice
Step 1: Make the tea.
You will need to make 1 cup of double strength tea. Use between 6-8 oz of water and 2 tea bags.
Step 2: Stir in the honey.
The key to integrating your honey successfully is to stir it in to your HOT tea. The heat will keep the honey liquid. If you wait and add it in later, it’ll crystallize and might even become a little chunky in the final product. I used about 2 Tablespoons. This is obviously to taste, so adjust as needed for yourself!
Step 3: Combine the ice and milk.
Depending on how icy you want it, use between 1 and 2 cups of ice and 1 cup of the milk of your choice. Pour them in your blender.
Step 4: Pour in the sweetened tea and blend!
I use my Vitamix, which pulverizes all of the ice chunks. Once it is all blended, pour it and enjoy! This makes enough for 2 people, or one mega glass for you to enjoy yourself!
I love that it makes its own little foam. I sprinkled mine with cinnamon to give it a fancy feel.
If your kids are like mine, they’ll want to try some, too. My daughter decided to drink a glass and a half, and her little brother had half a glass as well. This went fast!
Have you ever made your own frappuccino at home?
What flavor is your favorite?

I have tried making a type of frapp before, but once I blend it, the ice melts so quickly. Any suggestions?
Awesome that I saw this today, I was just asking my daughter if Starbucks makes these. I love chai tea lattes.

I had the same problem. Looks like less hot water, and letting it cool before blending with the ice and milk may be the trick. Unfortunately this means waiting longer to enjoy, but may be worth it. Or just keeping some steeped chai in the fridge during the summer.

Another thing you could try is freezing the tea into ice cubes itself! 🙂 It takes a little bit of extra prep time, but makes it more concentrated. 🙂
