Date Night!
I feel so fortunate that I was able to go on a date with my husband Friday night! We have been trying to stay more connected because, let’s face it, kids take up so much of our life right now! For our date, we went to go see The Tenderloins, better known as the Impractical Jokers from the truTV show.
We love comedy. We really enjoyed our date night several months ago at the Addison Improv.
I happened to be checking out the tour dates for The Tenderloins back in November and saw they were coming to Dallas. I knew I had to get tickets! I hopped on Ticketmaster and bought our tickets the second we confirmed that my mom would likely be able to watch the kiddos for us on the day they’d be in town.
Not only do we love Impractical Jokers, but this fell smack dab between my 30th birthday and Valentine’s Day. This was the perfect gift and a fun way to celebrate!
The show was at the Majestic Theatre in Dallas, which I had never been to. Judging from the reviews online, I knew it was going to be an old theatre. I was impressed at how pretty this restored location was and how intimate the seating was. I don’t think there was a bad seat in the house. I only wish that the lighting hadn’t been quite so strong because it was hard to see the guys’ faces. Alternatively, having a camera on them broadcasting it on the screen behind them would have been nice, too. No matter, we were just psyched to be there!
Impractical Jokers Live
We were so excited to see Sal, Q, Murr, and Joe live onstage. They didn’t disappoint. I was really expecting them to do a lot of improv, or maybe some stand-up. However, the real format of the show was some hilarious story-telling and some juicy behind-the-scenes details into their lives and into their show.
While much of the act was obviously scripted, they did a great job improvising various jokes, and the really fun part was that they were laughing practically the whole time! There were moments where the guys were literally falling over with laughter. So funny!
We were just happy to be away from our kids for a few hours, but what an amazing gift to be able to sit side by side and CRACK up all evening! I can’t remember the last time I laughed so hard. Their finale video clip totally took the audience (including us OF COURSE) over the edge, laughing and grasping at each others’ arms and covering our eyes, sitting on the edge of our seats as we watched. I laughed until I cried. THIS SHOW IS A MUST-SEE.
If you’re a fan, see these guys!
I think the best thing about the whole experience was that the guys were so real. How they portray themselves on TV, on their web shows, their podcasts, etc, lined up with what they were like in their show. These guys are who they say they are – and are insanely funny.
I won’t lie – their sense of humor is not family friendly in any way! I don’t let my kids watch the show on TV, and I certainly wouldn’t allow them to go to the live show. It’s sort of nice to have something that is just for the grown ups in our family. 😉
They have tour dates up on their website, and it looks like they will continue touring through at least June. I recommend checking them out if you are a fan of their truTV show.
Check them out!
They’re working on season 3 right now (which consists of 31 episodes! YES!!), but this clip gives you an idea of what their show is like if you haven’t seen it before. 🙂 Warning: There is suggestive content and questionable language.
Where to go next?
I’m trying to figure out where I want to go next for a date night. While my mom happened to be available this time, we may even hire a babysitter again to get to go out sooner rather than later!
