I am often looking for music and DVDs that both the kids and I can enjoy. Sometimes it’s hard to find, but I have had the pleasure of listening to an extraordinary CD and watching the accompanying DVD. This great music is from Gustafer Yellowgold and the album/DVD name is Infinity Sock.
The sound of the music sort of reminds me of Ben Folds or Jack Johnson. Mellow, smooth, melodic, and well put together. It’s enjoyable enough that I can listen without the kids and not feel weird. 😉 I actually really do enjoy it a LOT and have listened to the music itself ALMOST as many times as the kids have watched the DVD. The DVD is a neat experience because the animation is fun, different, and goes along with the songs on the album.
Gustafer Yellowgold’s Infinity Sock, the fourth in the award-winning series of Gustafer Yellowgold DVD/CD sets by illustrator/songwriter Morgan Taylor, was released on March 1, 2011 (Apple-Eye Productions, $19.99. run time approx. 90 minutes total content, for ages 4 and up).
Morgan Taylor developed the “musical moving storybook” Gustafer Yellowgold experience as equal parts pop rock concert and minimally animated movie. Featuring guest artists John Stirratt and Pat Sansone of WILCO, along with John Munson (bassist for Semisonic and late ‘80s cult favorite Trip Shakespeare), Gustafer Yellowgold’s Infinity Sock is the first Gustafer Yellowgold DVD/CD package to have a storyline, unfolding in graphic novel fashion and weaving together ten thought provoking, melodic soft-rock music videos in the inimitable Gustafer Yellowgold style, ranging from sublime alt-pop to gentle acoustic.According to Amber Bobnar of Boston Children’s Music, “Gustafer songs are often silly verging on the absurd, but they also posit larger universal themes, which is why they appeal so well to both kids and grownups. One of the themes that you see throughout Gustafer’s repertoire is that everyone has value.”
