I’m going to reveal a shocking secret about myself. I am a book junkie, er, collector. This review is for the incredible online store Library and Educational Services LLC. We were told to buy one of their Lifehouse Theater CDs, a book from the awesome best-selling “Who Was…” series, and then to spend about $60 on whatever we wanted from their Reinforced Hardcover Library Binding Nonfiction books. The total price for EVERYTHING came to less than $75! That was for 12 books (most of which were library bound, so they are sturdy and BEAUTIFUL) and an audio CD.
It was hard to pick a favorite, so I’ll show you a little bit about each one so you can understand the high quality of these resources that we picked out.
Honestly, our favorite was probably the audio book that we received. I love that it didn’t rely on fancy music or sound effects, but rather kept the story exciting and enjoyable through excellent voice acting and great story telling.
This story was so great, because it followed a little boy who actually got stuck in Aesop’s Fables and became a character in several of the iconic fables. He truly transformed into the different animals and had to report back to Aesop with what life lesson he had learned through each experience. It was so fun to listen to, and each story flowed to the next, but they were short and easy to pause or stop for the day and pick up another time, which is what we did. I’m definitely ordering more of these!
Being a lifelong Texan prompted me to purchase the “What Was the Alamo?” book for us! I already have an impressive collection of this series of books, and I was psyched to add this one to our home library.
Learning Texas history is just a requirement in this house, and we love how these are an easy read and have some great pictures to go along with it, too. It’s just the right size that my older kids can read it in a day or two, and my younger kids can go after it one chapter at a time, but it doesn’t take long since the chapters are brief.
This was the only softcover book that I ordered.
To get more bang for my buck, I bought a few different sets of books. The Awfully Ancient series looked hilarious. I was not disappointed at all. I mean, did you see that one of these has the word crapper in the title? Yes, my kids freaked out and have been laughing about some of the wild facts they’ve learned about Ancient History.
Here is a sneak peek inside the book. As you can see, the illustrations are great, and they include little tidbits off to the side. You need a sense of humor for these books, but the information is just packed in there!
I am going to make these books required reading this year for literature for some of my kids to take a break between long novels and literary analysis. I think everyone will be on board with that plan!
My 7, 9, 12, and 14 year olds all got a kick out of them.
The Cartoon Nation set is the perfect way to introduce or reintroduce information about how our federal government works. It also has that quirky style like the other set of books, and it filled to the brim with easy to digest nuggets for the kids. I’ll probably require these books, too, since both of my older kids are currently doing American History for the 2019-2020 school year. I think my 4th grader could learn a lot from them, so I’ll let him read along, too.
I like how interesting the layout is for these books. They’re easy to get into and have a comic-style feel to them.
During the review period, I just had my kids read the books how and when they wanted, so we’ll dive deeper into them when the school year officially begins for us.
Okay, by now you can see how my kids learn, and it’s by going in with gross, shocking, or cartoon-style illustrations. The Ye Yucky Middle Ages books were, again, a perfect fit for us.
I love the colorful language that the books use (not cursing, but interesting adjectives) and the quirky facts within the pages. It would be so easy to make a quick unit study using these as the spine.
In the meantime, everyone is enjoying picking it up on occasion and learning something new.
Library and Educational Services LLC is a wonderful website to purchase from. Every book we got was bound and shiny JUST like an expensive library book, but at a fraction of the price. The quality is amazing, and the customer service with this company is really good.
I have drooled over their Adventures in Odyssey collection, so if you are into those CD sets or DVDs of the cartoon, check them out on the Library and Educational Services LLC website! They are substantially discounted. For example, CD sets that retail for $24.99 is currently being sold on their website for just $13.99. It’s a great deal on great, well-known products.
They also have Bibles, books for adults, gifts, Christian fiction titles, and SO much more. It really is an impressive selection of products at really cheap prices – all the time! You don’t have to wait for a sale because it’s already reduced. That said, they do actually put things on sale so be sure to at least sign up for their newsletter to be in the know about those. Regular prices on their site are 30-70% off of publisher’s prices every day.
All of the products on their website must strictly adhere to specific guidelines. They must be in line with the Christian faith, even if they are not Christian resources.
Ordering was very straight-forward and shipping was fast. I am a very happy customer and plan to order many more books and other items in the near future.

LOL You got some great ones! I saw the middle ages books on other reviews, but wondered if they had an ancients series. Glad to see them! Everything you got looks wonderful – thanks for showing the insides of them! Any chance you wanna get rid of some of those Who Was books? LOL I still need a bunch for a co-op class my twins are taking. Anyway. Great review, tfs!
