I have had a crazy last few months. My last post alluded to what I was working on, but I didn’t come out and fully mention it. I have been working on my 200 hour yoga teacher certification through My Vinyasa Practice (affiliate link). MVP is a yoga studio based in Austin, Texas. They offer both in-person training, workshops, and classes, as well as numerous online offerings.
Over the past few months, I’ve interacted with some interesting and diverse teachers, as well as a whole host of students from all over the world. I dove right in and finished my training in less than 2 months. I could have finished a bit quicker, but we had a bit of a family crisis at the end of July that kept me from putting all of my attention on my studies like I had been prior to that time.
I am really thankful for the things that I was learning in my training and the mental space that it helped me to be in when my family went through the ordeal that we did. I was able to handle everything so much better than before I did a deeper dive into everything that yoga is and can be.
Affordable and Easy to Use
When I was looking around at yoga certification programs, I knew I wanted a program that was part of Yoga Alliance so that I could register with them afterward. I looked at a handful of online programs before narrowing it down to about 3 of them. I loved the approach that founder Michelle Young took with her yoga training and her online yoga school.
If you’ve been researching online yoga teacher training, you would be shocked at how affordable My Vinyasa Practice is compared to the competition. I saw many schools charging $1,000-$3,500 to do their courses. That wasn’t in my budget at all, but I could definitely afford MVP at just a few hundred dollars for the whole program PLUS lifetime access to their support and office hours, study groups, and a TON of completely free community offerings as well.
200 Hour Certification Course Requirements
The 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Certification includes the following modules, which must be completed in full:
- History & Foundations of Vinyasa Yoga
- Living Your Karma Through Your Dharma
- Understanding the Panchamaya Kosha System
- Anatomy, Mechanics, & Sequencing
- Integrating Mind & Body
- The Veils That Blind Us
- Chakras & Specializing Sequences
- Introduction To Specialized Practices
- Practicum & Certification
Throughout the course, there are many instructional videos, text information to read, and self-reflection exercises. Students must also read the included manual, Light on Yoga (affiliate link), and The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali (affiliate link). All of the books are included in digital form for free, or you can buy your own hard copies.
Students are also required to watch previously recorded or live Zoom sessions for a total of 48 hours of learning labs with lead trainers. You also must participate in and log 48 hours of personal practice and/or community involvement. That can include watching pre-recorded Zoom sessions with MVP teachers, live Zoom sessions with MVP teachers and mentors, and personal yoga practice on your own (such as watching on Youtube or participating at your local studio or gym).
There are 2 assignments that must be submitted where you write out or record yoga sequences according to the specifications of the program, and a full 60-75 minute Hatha or Vinyasa class must be taught and sent in as well for the practicum. There is a final exam that must be taken and passed with at least an 80%, and there is a final essay to turn in to complete the course.
Great for Anyone Interested in Yoga
My Vinyasa Practice has so many different training courses! If you are interested in receiving the certification or want to check out their other great courses (many are for personal development, not all are teacher trainings), be sure to check out the My Vinyasa Practice Sales *affiliate link* on their main page for special deals.
I love everything so much. The teachers are amazing. They each come from a different perspective and have varying specialties. The pre-recorded lectures and the live weekend lectures are so rich in content and community. Help is just a call, chat, email, or question at an office hour away! The coursework is thorough and insightful, and really dives deep into each of the 8 limbs of yoga, not just the poses (asanas). I highly recommend My Vinyasa Practice.
There are courses for meditation, healing rituals, yoga therapy for anxiety, yoga therapy for depression, yoga therapy for grief, yin yoga certification, business of yoga, ayurveda courses, prenatal yoga, children’s yoga, and so much more.
