Grapevine is a city here in Dallas / Fort Worth that I just love. It’s close to both major cities and has such a unique feel to it. Their downtown has this Old Town atmosphere with old timey shops, events that seem like throwbacks to the 50s, and so many unique businesses. It’s refreshing to see small businesses flourish in Grapevine.
I was recently invited to attend my choice of a painting session at Painting With A Twist in Grapevine, TX. You know that I said yes!
The atmosphere is very relaxed. It’s a BYOB establishment, and you’re welcome to bring food and drinks galore to enjoy during your class. You get to pick your favorite colored apron and head to your seat where the blank canvas is waiting for you.
I thought it was cool that they had a television screen up high for anyone that might have a hard time seeing the instructor. This way, everyone had the best seat in the house!
It was cozy and a great way to make some fast friends. This experience really brought the silly out in everyone, especially when our instructor rang a bell for a “drink break”. She did it every time someone sighed, talked badly about their own work, or if it got too quiet. Ding!
Even though I don’t consider myself an artist, the instruction was wonderful. Yes, I felt like I was going to ruin this perfectly good canvas. I had to have hope and faith that it would all turn out okay in the end.
Tell me, did it look like I was letting my paintbrush dance over the canvas? That’s what I was aiming for, but it seems like it did more stop, start, scribble.
My final product turned out better than I could have imagined! It’s a great New Orleans themed piece. I chose this one by checking out their calendar of events, seeing what worked with my schedule, and then choosing my favorite painting. Then I quickly registered online and was ready to go!

This studio just celebrated its 4th birthday. In the class I attended, there were folks that had been going since the very beginning as well as newbies just like me! It felt like a fun, artsy family there and a really supportive environment.
