Every school year, there are so many memorable experiences. It’s important to preserve those memories in some way, right?
I was able to review a terrific product and am proud to share my experience of creating a yearbook. Whether you’re a scout troop, a homeschooling family, part of a homeschool co-op, or head of a youth group, Picaboo Yearbooks are a fun and easy way to display and share pictures from the year. We received the 20 Page Softcover Yearbook to review, which was the perfect size to house our memories of the 2012-2013 school year!
It was so easy to create this yearbook for our homeschool. Okay, I take that back. The PROCESS was easy, but choosing from all of the backgrounds, stickers, fonts, page layouts, and more was extremely difficult! I took it 2 pages at a time.
The way I chose to divide our yearbook was August through May with 2 pages for each month. I tried to coordinate each month with a seasonally appropriate background to begin. THEN I went through my mounds of photos on my husband’s Picasa account (where we store all of our photos and have for the past 6 years!) and tried to narrow it down to a few that represented that time.
I loved looking through them and deciding which represented our school and which represented our general fun for the month. Most of the time, those go hand in hand! One issue I did run into was making sure that each child got represented a fairly equal amount of times. The last thing I need is for a kid to question their absence in the pictures years from now!
Once I decided on the photos I wanted to use for the month I was working on, I uploaded them into the system to the designated folder, which I named after the month I was doing at the time. Then I chose the pages I was working on from the virtual view of the album and decided on a background. You can choose a different background for each and every page, but I tried to coordinate them so that the facing pages didn’t clash.
Once I picked a background, and with literally hundreds to choose from, it was difficult, I chose the page layout for the pictures. If you’re wanting a more traditional yearbook page layout, you can choose from several that have rows and columns for vertical pictures with the notation lines on the side for noting names or dates or whatever you want. However, for us, we wanted it to be more of a scrapbook-style yearbook!
For some of the pages, I stuck to the premade layout with specific placement for pictures and text. For most, though, I moved the picture spots around, omitted text boxes, or added or took away from the amount of pictures that were there by default. It was extremely easy to customize, and I was able to squeeze in all of the pictures that were important to me.
My experience creating and reviewing our Picaboo Yearbooks purchase was very positive. The creation of it was easy and a lot of fun. There were tons of choices, reminders to check spelling and images showing you where the edges of pages would be, with lots of room for creativity.
This would be perfect for homeschooling families to use, but I could also see it being awesome for homeschool co-ops, playgroups, church youth groups, scout troops, and traditional schools as well.
This is an extremely affordable yearbook at just $8.49 for the 20 page softcover yearbook like I got, or $18.99 for the hardcover version. With your purchase, you receive a free eYearbook as well! That’s fun for showing off to friends and family from your phone, computer, or tablet. Shipping prices for the lower 48 states start at $8.99 for the first book, and only 99 cents for each one after that – or FREE shipping on orders of 50 or more!
