We’ve been living in the Dallas – Fort Worth area for 2 years now, and the best part is that we have so many amazing attractions nearby! One that we have visited 3 times now is the SEA LIFE Aquarium. We were recently invited to a sneak peek of their brand new Turtle Rescue Center exhibit, which is open now to all visitors!
Within the aquarium, there are over 30 displays of marine life, including a few hands-on exhibits. Two of my children enjoyed themselves immensely when they were able to touch chocolate chip starfish! What a unique experience.
The new Turtle Rescue Center exhibit is open to all SEA LIFE Aquarium guests and serves to provide a permanent home for two non-releasable endangered Kemp’s Ridley sea turtles, Roxy and Squirt. I had seen them 2 months prior at a Behind the Scenes event, and it was really great to visit them again. This time, they get to be out where all visitors can see them! They each have been rescued and rehabilitated. I always love a happy ending! 🙂
If you’re in the Dallas – Fort Worth area, be sure to stop by. SEA LIFE Aquarium is right next to LEGOLAND Discovery Center, and they often have great combination ticket deals. We always love doing the fun trivia game during our visit, and the kids even earn a prize at the end if it is completed.
What visit would be complete without visiting the gift shop? My son is ridiculously wild about sharks, so he was overcome with joy upon seeing the huge display of stuffed toys! There were a ton of real sharks in the aquarium, and he was a little more nervous around those guys than their stuffed cousins. (Did you notice that he chose to wear a sea turtle shirt? My little sweetie knew we were going to see the sea turtles Roxy and Squirt, so he dressed for the occasion!)

This was our first time visiting Sea Life! We will be back. I didn’t know those were called Chocolate Chip Starfish – how did they get their name?

Their back is covered in little brown nodes that sorta look like chocolate chips. Combined with the body color they almost look like a star shaped chocolate chip cookie, I wouldn’t recommend tasting them tho. 😀

Yes, aquariums are a great experience for children to learn about all the natural wonders our oceans and local ecosystems have to offer. Sea turtles are my area of interest for saltwater aquatic life. I love the fact they have a turtle rescue center. 2 Thumbs up for this aquarium!
