I love shopping at Walgreens, and I have been a Balance Rewards member for a while. It’s a great way to basically get rewarded for shopping as you earn points which can be redeemed for real money to use at Walgreens. I want to share with you a new program that they have called Steps With Balance Rewards where you actually get points for doing things like weighing in and logging your weight, recording physical activities you’ve been involved with (or steps you’ve taken each day), and overall health and fitness goals. I am a member of the Collective Bias® Social Fabric® Community. This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper insights study for Collective Bias® and Walgreens #cbias #SocialFabric.
Once I found out about the Steps With Walgreens Balance Rewards program, I went online to see what it was all about. I knew that I wanted to be able to actually track something that would be a no-brainer, so I got a pedometer to track my steps. There were several to choose from, but I ultimately chose one that I could just stick in my pocket and forget about each day. Check out my shopping adventure in my Google+ Album.
If you are interested in getting an account set up so you can track and achieve your goals, just go to the Steps with Balance Rewards program page and follow the prompts to get started. The website is easy to navigate, and if you’d don’t already have a Walgreens account to link your Balance Rewards program information with, it’s easy peasy to set up.
Since joining the program, I have already earned 670 points! The easiest way I have racked up the points has been to log my steps from the pedometer. I love that you can go back and add in information from past days. My pedometer has a feature where it saves my steps totals for a week, so I forgot to log them a few days and it was no problem. I simply checked my pedometer for what my totals were from the previous days and was able to date my entries in the Steps with Balance Rewards program online for the correct days and earn those points. Every now and then, I check out the Walgreens Facebook page to see other ways I can earn points that week.
The most difficult thing for me has been weighing in. I get really obsessive about it and generally weigh in every day, but for the past couple of weeks, I’ve been avoiding it! Once a week, I’ve bitten the bullet and gone for it. I got points for doing it, plus I was pleasantly surprised! Maybe being more accountable will be better for me than I first thought!
My goal set right now is to get 6,000 steps per day. That may not sound like a lot, but I’m actually having a hard time reaching it. Unfortunately, I’ve become pretty sedentary over the past few months due to doing more work from home at the computer. The days that I do reach my goal, I celebrate by doing a little happy dance. I might as well burn a few extra calories, right?!
I’m hoping to ultimately celebrate my weight loss goals by purchasing a new wardrobe for myself. I have about 2 pair of pants that fit, and they are my skinny jeans from 5 years ago. It’s time to break out the shopping cart and get some new ones once I hit my goal! I’m aiming for Mother’s Day!

Oooh yes, swimsuit season!
My fitness goal at this point is to just walk more. I have a pedometer, but it’s the one where you clip somewhere. I need to set a goal for how many steps per day. I hadn’t heard about the Balance Rewards program. I do like shopping at Walgreens. I’ll have to check it out.

You really should! The points add up quickly, and then you have some free money to use when you shop there.
Are you kidding? 6000 steps sounds like a LOT to me. Keep up the good work.
My goal is to get to dance class 3 times a week. I’ve been on target so far and it helps that I love to dance.
Thanks.

Dancing sounds so much fun! Do you do it alone, with a group, with a partner? 🙂 Very cool

Thanks for the info Jenn. I am not a big Walgreens shopper, other than some occasional photos – maybe it’s time to rethink.

You’d be surprised at all of the things they have there! I especially like to check out Walgreens around holidays for quick pick ups like decorations and candies. 🙂
Really informative post, Jenn. Thanks so much for sharing the deets for this program. I have to admit I’ve not been a Walgreen’s shopper much in the past, but this is certainly a great reason to start! Glad I found you via the UBC…

That’s so awesome that they reward you for physical activity. I need to be better about getting up and moving — motivation is always key!

Heck yeah! Motivation is key with any fitness or health program. You just have to get your head in the game and be in the right frame of mind or it’ll never work! 🙂 Ask me how I know. HAHA!
For years, I lived out in the country and we didn’t have a Walgreens near us…now, we have one right down the road but I never go. I will totally have to stop in and check it out.

You would love it! It’s such a one stop shop. 🙂
I love Omron pedometers for their price point and accuracy. Their display is nice and big as well, for easy sight of your progress.
