Subscription boxes are all the rage right now. Since you’re probably like me and always think of your kids first, I’d like to tell you about the coolest children’s subscription box out there. You probably heard about it on the hit show Shark Tank. Let me introduce you to Surprise Ride.
*Surprise Ride sent me a box to review. All opinions and thoughts are my own.
Surprise Ride is unlike anything I’ve ever tried out before. Basically, each month your children will receive a themed box of goodies. They’ll get a guidebook with information on the topic, a few fun themed activities and all of the supplies needed to complete them, a snack, surprises, and information on how to continue to explore the topics.
My box was about Japan. It included the Flat Stanley book “The Japanese Ninja Surprise”, an origami kit, a paper lantern kit (and all of the supplies!), chopsticks and some chopstick helpers, a package of Pocky (yum!), and some surprises. Not only that, but all instructions were included on a full-colored card, as well as a little guidebook with all sorts of information about Japan.
Nerdy moms like me will enjoy using this box as a starting point for teaching more about the topic. This is totally a launchpad for some internet and library research. I can’t wait to find extra books at our local library to teach the kids more about the Japanese culture, both historically and in modern times. The Surprise Ride box helps us to approach it in an exciting, creative way without feeling like we’re doing school.
I love the thought behind this. It creates an instant unit study for any family with kids roughly aged 6-11 years old. At only $29.99 per month, or $24.99 per month with a 6 or 12 month subscription, it’s an affordable way to allow your kids to learn and have fun simultaneously.

Is 5 years and 4 months too young for this? How do we order one? I’d like to see if she likes it first and if so then I’d order a 6 month subscription. Thank you

The topics are educational and really fun topics. My 4 and 6 year olds really enjoyed the box!
I think if a 5 year old has a little help and supervision, this would be a great gift! The crafts might be a bit advanced and the book, too, but not with help. :).

You are so welcome! It’s such a great concept, and totally inexpensive for all the awesome goodies put into it. So much love in every box. 🙂
Beware I ordered a one time gift. They sent me an email confirming that it was sent out. They’ve been charging me month after month and had no email to let me know that they’ve sent a package out. I am furious. They’ve been charging my credit card without my authorization.
I heard abt Surprise Ride on The View so believed it must be a great product. I did not see it on Shark Tank. Received the Surprise Ride box on the 11th, just in time for a party on the 12th. I have ordered it for 3 months for my niece’s 8 yr old son and 6 yr old daughter to work together while at grandmas’ during summer vacation.
My first impression is not good. For the price, I don’t believe there is anywhere near $30 worth of activities in this small box and in that alone, I am VERY dissapointed! The kids will get this gift later today. The boy will also be getting a 321 piece Lego and the girl a Wuggles Pet 8-animal kit. Maybe this will be like comparing oranges to apples, but I am going to watch the kids to see their reactions, attention to each project and their enthusiasum to what they want to work on. I’ll post an update in a couple weeks (they spend a week with each grandma, so will be at this grandma’s week after this next one). If the kids show interest and excitement, I will certainly change my opinion. After all, that is the whole purpose in making the purchase, not its price tag.
Also, the Surprise Ride website should have its own tab for reviews.
Thanks for the opportunity to post my opinion.

The billing process is HORRIBLE at best! You pay for twelve months and they cancel after 3-4months. This is not the first incident. Be careful too much emphasis on financial issues to continue. I am VERY dissatisfied with the company!!
