This New Year cleaning resolution tips post is brought to you by Mr. Clean as part of a Type-A Parent Community Sponsored Post.
Cleaning is a chore that few actually enjoy, especially when it takes forever to pick out the perfect cleaner for the many different surfaces in the home. There’s a pressure to have a spotless, Pinterest-worthy home at all times, and with 4 kids, that’s just not happening around here!
Who likes grabbing all of the supplies and getting the family out of that area long enough to actually clean? Mr. Clean has a new product called Mr. Clean Liquid Muscle, which makes cleaning the house so much easier. This will definitely help with my cleaning resolutions for 2014.
My Cleaning Resolutions for 2014
- I will organize my things so they don’t collect dust (or worse).
I have so much stuff. Clothes, shoes, cleaning supplies, books, the kids’ toys, bathroom staples, food, dishes, kids’ art work, decorations, and the list goes ON and ON! I resolve to organize them so that each thing has its own place. Not only does this give the sense of more space, but it also helps items to avoid being damaged or dirtied by life. (How many magazines have I had to throw away because I “stored” them too close to the bathtub or how many cookbooks have been soiled by runaway tomato sauce? EEK!) - I will OWN less stuff!
Part of this is going to be using more multi-functional items. There are many ways to do this, from using a toilet paper holder that doubles as a magazine rack to switching to products like Mr. Clean Liquid Muscle which works on multiple surfaces to clean in every room in the house. - I will clean as I go, and not wait until the last minute to clean things.
Even though it seems like the messes just pile up within nanoseconds, I resolve to clean more swiftly this year. The longer something gross sits on the floor, table, shirt, countertop, sink, or whatever – the longer it has to do real damage and also makes me look like a slob. It’s usually a lot easier to deal with a fresh mess than to wait on that natural cleaning momentum (which I seem to completely lack altogether!).It’s time to take a deep breath, take charge, and stop waiting to conquer the messes. If I don’t attack them first, they’ll eat away at me! That’s how I feel, anyway. 🙂 - I will continue to help teach my kids how to clean, and insist that they clean up after themselves.
Really, my 8 year old is an amazing cleaner. She can clean her bathroom from top to bottom in less than 10 minutes and doesn’t even complain. My 6 year old is a little OCD and could spend a good hour on the toilet alone, so I have to give him chunks of activities to do at a time and prod him along. My 4 year old? Oh, my good gracious. That child is the naughty one that pees all over the floor and “forgets” to tell me. He’ll even admit that he did it intentionally, but can’t come up with a reason. This is the child I will be focusing on in 2014. Next up? The 20 month old needs to be taking notes. - I will reward my kids and myself for a job well done!
Who decided that only kids should be rewarded for doing their chores? I’ve decided to reward myself this year, too. I think a week of staying up on the ever-growing to-do list deserves a dinner out or a fun movie rental, what do you think?
