If you love art of all kinds, including local music, I have a treat for you! Cottonwood Art Festival starts bright and early Saturday, May 4, 2013 from 10AM-7PM (with live music until 8pm). Then it resumes on Sunda, May 5, 2013 from 10AM-6PM. The Cottonwood Art Festival is in its 44th year, and this bi-annual event is located at the beautiful and massive Cottonwood Park in Richardson, Texas (1321 W. Belt Line Road, one block east of Coit Road). Parking and admission are free.

We went back in October, and it was truly impressive. I loved that it was an open-air market of sorts, in addition to being a real art show. The artists’ works are available for purchase. There are delicious foods for purchase from various vendors.

This year, a new food vendor will be there called Crepe Crazy. They promise, “European flavors to surprise your tastebuds,” and the varieties sound really tasty! How do these sound to you? Vegetarian Pesto, Sausage and Caramelized Onion, Cream Cheese and Fruity Nutella, Peanut Butter Heaven, and Greek Chicken. These aren’t your typical French crepe!
Children have their own special area at the festival called ArtStop. Some of the children’s event require a nominal fee, but many are available at no charge.
Cottonwood Art Festival is a juried show. Jurors have selected over 240 artists from 1,400 submissions to exhibit their museum-quality work at the festival. The artists compete in 14 categories: Sculpture, 2D Mixed Media, 3D Mixed Media, Leather, Ceramics, Digital, Drawings/Pastels, Fiber, Wood, Glass, Jewelry, Metalwork, Painting, and Photography.
Don’t forget to look into the local bands! There will be jazz, blues, folk, swing, rock, and country throughout the weekend. You can relax with some food and drinks available for purchase in the courtyard. Last year, my kids enjoyed dancing to the music in front of the stage area!
