Do you love having a rice cereal marshmallow treat? Me, too. Now imagine that with an ADORABLE homemade Minion on top! Hooray – a super cute treat to enjoy with your own little Minions. These would make an awesome treat for a Minions themed party for sure.
Minions Rice Treats
Make the Rice Treats
To make, you begin by making the treats themselves. Rice Krispie Treats are easy to make and you could always use whatever cereal you’d like if there’s something you like better. I prefer my snap, crackle, and pop, though, so I usually stick to the original (or an off brand – shhh).
Once you’ve made your treats and they’ve had time to cool in your 9 x 13 pan, cut them into 2 inch squares. Place cut rice treats on a parchment-lined cookie sheet and put a craft stick in one end of the prepared treats. If you want, you can decorate the sticks with markers, being sure not to decorate on places that directly touch your food.
Honestly, if you’d rather not make them yourself, you can instead purchase Rice Krispie Treats. Just unwrap and poke your craft stick in the end to use as you would have used homemade bars.
To Make the Minions
This is where it gets trickier. You’ll have to get artsy here because you’re creating the world’s most adorable little yellow guys with your very own hands! Start with making the icing, and then you’ll create your Minions. You’re making your own little candy creations. Have fun with it!
Royal Icing Ingredients:
2 egg whites
1 C powder sugar
1/2 tsp cream of tartar
Add 1/4 C powder sugar until stiff peaks form
Yellow, blue, white, black, red, grey gel food coloring (depending on the Minions you decide to make)
Icing Directions:
-Mix eggs, cream of tartar, and powder sugar on medium speed for 4 minutes.
Making Minions
You will also need:
Picture(s) of Minions
Wax Paper
Cookie Sheet
2 medium-sized bowls
4 small bowls
Something to stir with (craft sticks or small spatulas work nicely)
Pastry bag(s) or Ziplock bag(s)
#2 tip(s)
Edible eyes
Find a picture of the Minion or Minions that you want to decorate your rice treats with. Copy the picture into a word processor document and duplicate it several times until you have a page full of them. Make sure they’re the size that you want your final product of icing Minions to be. Print this in color and tape it to the bottom of a cookie sheet.
Tape wax paper over your Minions print out and onto the cookie sheet .
Divide the icing you made into thirds.
In the first bowl, place 1/3 of your icing with the yellow gel food coloring. Mix it together until the color has incorporated into the icing.
In the second bowl, place 1/3 of your icing in it and add several drops of blue gel food coloring, as you will be using this for the overalls.
With the remaining icing, put about 2 TBSP of icing in 2 of the bowls and about 1 TBSP of icing in the last two bowls. Add 2 drops of black gel food coloring to one of the 2 TBSP bowls (and carefully mix it in) and leave the other one white. In the last two bowls, add 1-2 drops of red to one and 1-2 drops of gray to the other. Mix well.
NOTE: If you are using the same pastry bag and/or tip, they will need to be cleaned after each use. You will be using one with each of the colors, so plan accordingly however you’d like to do it!
*Using a small pastry bag filled with the yellow royal icing and a #2 tip, start by outlining the body first. Fill in only the body with the yellow gel food coloring. You’ll be essentially tracing and filling in your little Minions from the print out that you covered in wax paper.
*Using the blue icing, outline and then color in the overalls.
*Using the black icing, color in the boots, gloves, and back of glasses. Outline first, then color in.
*Using the red icing, outline and color in the mouth, leaving the teeth untouched. (This is great if the Minion calls for red lips or they have their tongue showing).
*Using the white icing, fill in any places with white features, like teeth.
*Place your edible eyes onto your Minions and then outline with gray for the glass frame.
Refrigerate leftover icing for use the next day.
Allow Minions to dry on the cookie sheet for 5-10 hours.
To Assemble Minions Rice Treats
Decorate your rice treats, if desired, with drizzles of your leftover icing. Use any colors you’d like to add stripes or other designs.
In the center of each rice treat, place a dab of icing and top with a Minion. The icing acts as your glue, so be mindful of how much you will need to use.
Enjoy!
