It’s been a few days since we began the paleo challenge. How are you doing? What has been the biggest change for you?
I’d love to hear from you. The paleo journey is unique for every person. I have yet to run into someone that went paleo, ate lots of good fat and protein, but had a negative result. I don’t think most people realize the negative effects of the Standard American Diet until they eliminate the foods that cause them the most discomfort.
I’m No Angel
I’ll be honest. A few days before the challenge, I decided that I have been “good” for about 5 months and I wanted to treat myself. I ate regular, cookie and candy loaded ice cream and even some fudge brownies. I didn’t eat pizza or pasta because I’ve learned my lesson on how those make me feel!!
You know what I noticed? I noticed that I was bloated, constantly hungry, could feel my sugar highs and lows, and that my stomach was upset. My skin broke out and I gained weight. I also had bad dreams.
Isn’t it crazy how powerful our food choices are in our well being? You’d think that would be a no-brainer, but in our pill-popping society, I think a lot of people have forgotten that a good diet can go a long way to overall health.

I have to admit, I am not doing paleo per se, but I am only eating lean protein, fruit, veggies, and whole grains, and I feel great. Cravings are gone, hunger is gone, my blood sugar is regulated. Basically, I feel fantastic just from eating real food, instead of processed stuff. Imagine that. If only real food tasted like oreos…

I went face first into this! Things are going great! The weight is coming off and I’m feeling more energetic! This morning we tried your Paleo pancakes, along with some homemade turkey sausages I made, for breakfast. Everything was a hit! With 9 children, that means a lot 🙂 Today is the first day I haven’t had”sweet” cravings ~ woohoo. I’m thankful I made the jump, and I can see this becoming a lifestyle for us 🙂 Happy 4th!!!

I jumped in and have been doing pretty well! There have been a few moments that I’ve cheated accidentally or on purpose and I can tell a difference in how I feel afterwards, which has shocked me since we are only a few days in to the challenge! I have lost several pounds and I am finding that I’m much more clear headed and motivated and am starting to have more energy! Also I can tell that I am starting to sleep better and am sleeping deeper, which is huge, since I have a ten month old and haven’t had a decent night sleep in well over a year!
I do find that I have to plan ahead a little more for meals. I can’t just get up and eat a bowl of cereal with milk and have coffee with cream. I can’t just have a sandwich for lunch or pasta for dinner. I knew we were a family of carboholics, but this is really eye-opening for me! We’ve been eating a lot of salad and I’ll put out a bunch of different toppings for everyone to choose from, and that’s been a hit! I add tuna or shredded chicken onto the salad for protein, instead of using beans and cheese. I want to go get some turkey bacon and wrap it around some chicken and sweet potatoes for a fun new meal. My kids are great about eating fruit and veggies and this is helping me be better about eating them as well and not just depending on salads.
Tonight I am going to a Fourth of July party and I originally was planning to cheat and eat whatever I wanted. But when I had the sips of soda earlier today, it just didn’t settle well. And after we had spaghetti (I was careful to not add cheese and completely forgot about the noodles. Whoops! *blush* ) and I did feel bloated and tired. So I’m more motivated to stick to the diet and maybe just allow myself one little chocolate treat. Chocolate is the thing I miss the most.
Now I’ve started exercising and next on my list is going to bed at a decent hour. I think those things will help me to feel better and stick to the diet better.
