I have completed many yoga teacher training programs and continuing education hours over the past 3 years. I love the ease and convenience of taking these courses online. I also want to have access to a lot of support and a place where I can have my questions answered live. I researched a bit to see what all was available, and Online Yoga School (also sometimes referred to as Yoga & Ayurveda Center) was where I decided to complete my 300-Hour YTT (Yoga Teacher Training) so that I could become eligible to register with Yoga Alliance as an RYT 500. If you’re interested in the first leg of that journey, you can read about my 200 Hour YTT.
When I began this journey, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to eventually teach yoga or not. Regardless, I wanted to get a really detailed overview of all things yoga. Growing up, yoga and meditation were frowned upon in many ways, which I think is a shame considering how beautiful it is! As an adult learning about it, I felt like I had a lot of catching up to do, and this 300 Hour course was the perfect place to do so.
If price is a consideration for you, this YTT is refreshingly affordable, especially considering how much time and care that has been put into the information presented. If you’re currently practicing yoga, brand new to the practice, or just curious, the various classes that OYS offers would be a great place to start.
Do you want a deep dive into the history behind the different asanas (poses), breathwork (pranayama), and meditative practices? Are you curious how to sequence a practice that is gentler on the body? Do you want to understand which poses and breaths match the energy you’re trying to achieve in your practice (calming, energizing, sleep-inducing, empowering, etc)? If any of that describes you, you’ll love every course that Online Yoga School offers.
This 300 Hour Yoga Teacher Training Course covers advanced ethics training, yoga mythology, anatomy, scope and safety, advanced pranayama training, advanced asana, special training for prenatal, seniors, and children as students, information on accessibility, advanced mantra, advanced mudra, advanced meditation, advanced cueing, advanced sequencing, trauma-sensitive yoga, advanced business training, and bonus workshops on equity in yoga by THE Dianne Bondy! When I saw that she had some workshops and practices included in this training, I got excited. You might know her from her book, Yoga for Everyone: 50 Poses For Every Type of Body. (affiliate link) She’s a rockstar!
This 300 hour program requires observation hours, practice teaching hours, personal practice hours, live class hours to attend through OYS, a Seva project, and quizzes and videos to be uploaded and shared along the way. It is very involved, but SO fun to complete!
I took my time with it and took breaks as life popped up, but I was DETERMINED to finish this course. I finally did it in November 2023!
The image above is what my dashboard looks like inside of Online Yoga School. As you can see, I have enrolled in multiple courses. I actually completed the RPYT (Registered Prenatal Yoga Teacher) training in 2022, but they keep adding amazing content! I should probably go back and see the new materials, as it was 100% complete when I went through the material a couple of years ago. Obviously they’ve added more valuable information to learn.
You get to keep your courses and the content forever. I love that because as they do make updates (and often, they’re significant and AMAZING updates!), you benefit from that by continuing to have access. I love how Steph Ball-Mitchell, the founder and lead trainer of Online Yoga School, keeps the information fresh, inclusive, and trauma-informed.
I love that the courses include lots of video instruction, written instruction, and the support of the trainers in the program. Everyone with Online Yoga School is so caring and genuine. They even have Facebook groups to chat with other students. I went on there often to get encouragement and accountability. I loved rooting for others and seeing what everyone was doing, as well.
If you’ve been looking for a good place to explore yoga, meditation, breathwork, mindfulness, or anything of the sort, be sure to check out Online Yoga School. I recommend that brand new students or folks wishing to register with Yoga Alliance first complete a 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training, which Online Yoga School – Yoga & Ayurveda Center offers, too. Then work on this 300 hour course! You’ll be so glad that you did.
If you’d like to know when they are having great sales, go follow the Online Yoga School Facebook Page! These courses are great for career development if you wish, but they’re also INCREDIBLE for self-discovery and self-development.
As you go through the modules, complete assignments, attend classes, log personal practice hours, and create your own yoga sequences, you will discover new things about yourself. You’ll learn about your work ethic, your ability to tap into your feelings, your ability to focus and take time for yourself, your ability to gently push yourself to be just a little bit better and a little bit wiser with each task. You will develop preferences for certain movements, create rituals for yourself, and develop a more positive self-talk and outlook on life.
I am forever grateful to Steph, Melissa, La Toya, and the others at Online Yoga School for their beautiful instruction and for sharing their knowledge and hearts throughout the lessons and live sessions.
