I really don’t want to make it a habit to talk about politics on my blog, but someone asked me this recently so I thought I’d address it.
I consider myself an Independent. I have voted for both major political parties in Presidential elections in the past few elections that I’ve been privileged to be eligible to participate in. I have also voted for members of both parties in other elections, including local and state elections. I’ve also voted for 3rd party candidates many times.
There are some issues that I am passionately conservative on and others that seem to make me fall into the liberal category. I hate labels. I hate being told that I’m too this or too that or not ____ enough. I’ve heard people assume that I’m this way or that way based on single factors. Like that I care about the environment and alternative energy sources… or that I’m pro-life…. or that I go to a Baptist church…. or whatever.
All I ask is that you please don’t lump me into one party or the other and please don’t assume that I agree with you fully! I honestly can’t think of anyone that 100% agrees with EVERY aspect of EVERY thing in relation to one party or another. We are all individuals, all people with the freedoms to think and feel and reason and research on our own. We all have different life experiences, different spins on how we react to things…
Honestly, though… how would my political affiliations change who *I* am? I am still me no matter who I vote for or don’t vote for. I can support an idea without it being something that 100% represents me. If I needed to vote only for things I stand 100% behind, I honestly couldn’t vote. Ever.
